What to Say in Your Welcome Speech as a Couple | Let’s Marry Celebrant Brisbane

A Lovely, Optional Personal Touch

While your wedding celebrant traditionally delivers the welcome to guests, more and more couples are choosing to add a short personal welcome of their own, either alongside the celebrant2019s opening words or as a brief moment before the vows begin. As your marriage celebrant, we think it is a beautiful, intimate addition when done well.

Keep It Short and Genuine

A welcome speech from the couple does not need to be long, often just a minute or two is plenty. Thank your guests sincerely for being there, perhaps acknowledge anyone who travelled a long way or could not make it, and share briefly why this day, and the people in front of you, mean so much.

What to Avoid

We always gently steer couples away from trying to cover everything, your whole relationship history, every inside joke, every thank you individually. Save the longer storytelling for reception speeches later in the day. The ceremony welcome works best when it is warm, brief, and sets an emotional tone for the vows that follow.

Delivering It With Confidence

If public speaking makes you nervous, you are far from alone. We are always happy to help couples prepare, including practising delivery, or simply having your celebrant read a short welcome on your behalf if that feels more comfortable. There is no wrong choice here, only what feels right for you as a couple.

Whether your ceremony is taking place in Auchenflower, Chermside or Helensvale, we are here to help you find the right words. Let’s Marry is a finalist in the 2025 Australian Bridal Industry Awards, Wedding Celebrant Division, and a national finalist in the 2025 Bx Business xCellence Awards, Wedding Division.
